BOATS FOR FISHERMEN

The goal we set before us was to give boats at the earliest to heads of families, so that they could go fishing again and feed their families. After analysing the situation ( refer to News 6th January " Fishing Boats at Pondy ") we decided to find an alternative for Katumarans , rafts assembled out of logs of Kapok tree.

This type of boat was severely damaged by the tidal wave .The wood of kapok trees is quite light and also porous. It absorbs water like a sponge and at the end of four to five hours begins to sink. Thus the Katumarans washed away by the waves were lost.

We finally settled upon a model easy to make and not expensive : 200€.

According to the first survey results more than ten million boats have been destroyed.
"Pondy Fishermen" is going to modestly contribute to the rebuilding of this lost fleet.
Its contribution is going to depend exclusively on the funds it has and will receive
