There were two of us going to assess
the damage caused by the tsunami.
Nothing was left in the villages that were close to the coast ; everything
had been invaded by the waves, solidly-built houses were demolished, the
fishing-boats and catamarans smashed, the trees uprooted.
The fishermen were entirely destitute …. They had no boat, no drinking
water, no housing, no food and no clothes. Their life is too miserable.
They are patiently waiting for handouts from their government or private
people.
I could see women praying in front of a photo of a god surrounded by
a few flowers and they lighted some oil to keep a small light burning.
Let us hope they will resume a normal life, in peace, and overcome fear
and sadness.
Others are asking for work.
Even in sadness, the children were trying to forget their plight by playing.
Everyone wished to come to terms with that event and enjoy a new life.
